Well organized and up-to-date, this historical biographical directory offers a number of chronological or alphabetical listings for each of the four major groups of government officials it includes. It lists basic biographical data, including such information as date of birth, state of residence, date of appointment and age at appointment, date and age when leaving office, date of death and age at death. Several noteworthy appendixes include a time line, February 22, 1732 through January 20, 2001, in which every birth, inauguration, and death of a president has a chronological entry. Although historical biographical data about presidents, vice presidents, and Supreme Court justices are available online (e.g., http://www.infoplease.com and http://www.oyez.org/oyez/portlet/justices/), this is the only current source that includes cabinet members. It updates both Walter Neale's Autobiographies and Portraits of the President, Cabinet, Supreme Court, and Fifty-fifth Congress (1899) and Justice's own Public Office Index (CH, Dec'85). ^BSumming Up: Recommended.
